Kanye West releases a new song defending Trump embrace

Kanye West released a new song defending is embrace of President Trump amid a wave of backlash.

“Ye vs. The People,” which features a debate with rapper Tip “T.I.” Harris, debuted on Los Angeles radio station Power 106 on Friday.

“I know Obama was Heaven sent, but ever since Trump won, it proved that I could be president,” West raps in one verse.

Earlier this week, West penned a series of tweets defending Trump. In one of the tweets, West shared a picture of himself wearing a signed “Make America Great Again” hat. The tweetstorm came as a surprise to fans and his colleagues in the entertainment industry, and some fellow music figures and friends of West expressed their dismay.

“Make America Great Again had a negative reception. I took it, wore it, rocked it gave it a new direction. Added empathy, care and love and affection, and y’all simply questionin’ my methods,” West raps in his new song.

T.I. responds to that verse: “This shit is stubborn, selfish, bullheaded, even for you.”

West said earlier this week that although he doesn’t agree with all of the president’s agenda, “the mob can’t make me not love him” and this is his way of expressing free speech. West also said he doesn’t subscribe to either the Republican or Democratic parties.
