Obama turns to Bill Clinton for fundraising help

President Obama will attend two fundraisers this weekend with former President Bill Clinton, as his one-time nemesis takes an increasingly active role in his reelection campaign.

The White House announced that Obama and Clinton will hold two private fundraisers in Virginia this Sunday. The fundraisers, which include a dinner that costs $20,000 to attend, should raise at least $1.6 million to be divided among the Obama campaign, the Democratic National Committee, and state Democratic parties.

Earlier this week, the Obama-approved superPAC Priorities USA also asked the Clintons for fundraising help.

Clinton is giving personal assistance to the campaign, but his donor network will not contribute to the superpac until Obama’s high dollar backers write some big checks.

Obama’s campaign has also turned to Clinton for strategic advice. David Axelrod, the president’s top campaign consultant, met with Clinton in November, and the former president’s suggestions caused Axelrod to change the way he attacks Mitt Romney.
