A fake Barack Obama walks into a bar. This sounds like the beginning of a joke — it’s not.
On Thursday night in Havana, Cuba, a fake Obama actually walked into a bar — several, in fact — and ordered a mojito. As anticipated, individuals looked on in amazement, attempting to snap pictures of the “president” and chronicle his historic trip into the country.
Unfortunately, the bar goer was not Barack Obama, but instead René Francisco Rodríguez, a Cuban performance artist, according to The Telegraph.
Rodríguez performed the experiment as part of his art show “Entropia” for the current Cuban art exhibition the Havana Biennial, which kicked off Saturday. The artist aimed to dupe people into believing he was the American president and record their responses for the show.
While quite unlikely, a trip to Cuba for Obama today would certainly not be unimaginable, as the U.S. president made the bold move of beginning to restore diplomatic relations with the country back in December of last year.
It seems only fitting that White House press secretary Josh Earnest insisted Thursday, “I know there’s one person in particular who hopes President Obama will be in Havana at some point in the relatively near future, and that’s President Obama himself.”
One day, the real Barack Obama just might walk into a bar and have a drink with Cuba’s Raul Castro.
