Trump press secretary calls The View hosts ‘wildly out of touch’ for wanting him in jail

Former President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign press secretary greatly criticized The View for hoping he goes to jail, suggesting they are “wildly out of touch.”

The hosts were discussing a recent warning from Judge Juan Merchan gave to Trump for repeatedly violating his gag order for discussing the details of his current trial, with the judge warning that further violations could result in the president receiving jail time. Several of the co-hosts then suggested various prisons they would like to see Trump in, with Sunny Hostin suggesting Riker’s Island and Whoopi Goldberg suggesting that Alcatraz prison be reopened for the former president.

“Voters do not agree with these despicable women on The View,” said Karoline Leavitt, Trump’s 2024 campaign press secretary on Fox Business’s Varney & Company. “They are wildly out of touch with the vast majority of Americans, and frankly they should seek immediate help because voters are going to reelect President Trump back to the White House very soon because voters see these trials that are being brought forward against President Trump for what they are.”

Leavitt continued, “They are sham show trials, they are election interference and an attempt to imprison President Trump, and the irony in all this is that Joe Biden and the Democrats and these ladies on the view say ‘President Trump is the alleged threat to democracy,’ when in fact they themselves are wishfully thinking that President Trump will be imprisoned when he has not been convicted of any crimes. That is the real threat to democracy. Voters see that, and that’s why President Trump continues his dominance in the polls, not just with Republicans and Independents, but he’s also picking up historic gains with Democrat constituencies such as African Americans, Hispanic Americans and union workers.”

Leavitt was also asked about the possibility of Trump wanting to go to prison due to how it would cause a massive reaction among his supporters and voters in general. Trump himself has dismissed the possibility of going to jail for violating his gag order, arguing that “our Constitution is much more important than jail.”

“Well, certainly that would be a travesty of justice to watch the former president of the United States be incarcerated when he has never committed a crime,” Leavitt said. “There would be an uproar across the country if that were to happen, but as President Trump has said, the Constitution comes first. They are violating his First Amendment right to even speak about this case with the unconstitutional gag order and he’s fighting every step of the way.”

Podcast host Joe Rogan has expressed similar criticism of The View in the past, calling it comparing the show to a “rabies-infested henhouse.” Rogan also suggested that most of their fans are unable to leave their homes, though admitted that the show is “fun to watch.”

Trump claimed on Tuesday that the prosecution’s case in his hush money trial is “totally falling apart” after adult film star Stormy Daniels testified in court. Katie Charleston, a California-based former prosecutor, told the Washington Examiner that Daniels’s testimony was “just a sideshow to try and introduce some more salacious and potentially prejudicial facts” to convince the jury that Trump is a bad person.

Ahead of the 2024 election, several Republicans critical of Trump, including former Attorney General William Barr and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), have supported Trump in his presidential bid. Former White House press secretary Jen Psaki suggested that these Republicans are now supporting Trump because it is possible they think Trump could die or be imprisoned in the near future.
