Donald Trump said Wednesday morning that he’d be open to having the former Alaska governor serve in his administration, although he didn’t think she would want to run on his ticket as vice president.
“Certainly she could play a position if she wanted to,” Trump said of Palin on the “Today” show, just hours after she endorsed him.
Trump downplayed the idea of picking her as a running mate, and said “she’s been through that” during the 2008 election when she ran on the GOP ticket with Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.
Although Palin helped Sen. Ted Cruz with his Senate campaign, she switched allegiances to Trump and gave him his highest profile endorsement yet. Prior to the Plain endorsement, the Cruz campaign criticized Palin for turning her back on the conservative cause and endorsing Trump, saying that this would be a “blow to Sarah Palin.”
“It’s just been captivating for everybody, including myself, that she called because everybody was trying to get Sarah. Everybody wanted that endorsement,” Trump said.
He added, “Every candidate wanted Sarah, they respect her a lot.”
