Eric Cantona, French football (soccer) hero, legend and poet seems to want to launch a new financial crisis in France and the rest of Europe. Cantona was most famous outside of France for his time with Manchester United during a time, in the 90s, when they were at their most successful.
He believes that riots on the streets and protests aren’t going to change things, but if people pulled their money out of the banks government might change their policies.
First Post reports Catona’s comments on French TV.
“The system revolves around the banks. It’s based on the power of the banks so it must be destroyed starting with the banks.”The 3 million people with their placards on the street, they should go to the bank, withdraw their money from the banks and the banks collapse.”Three million, 10 million people and the banks collapse… No weapons, no blood or anything like that.”
Naturally there is a website to encourage this course of action Bankrun2010. Its mean to bring people together and start a proper campaign of withdrawl from banks.
The website Project World Awareness has the video with subtitles under the headline “kill the banks.” Other websites are all over this and the anti-capitalists are trying to get the video to go viral. Even the Daily Paul has linked to the video pondering what effect it would have the world financial markets.
We have no idea if Cantona, the soccer hero, will inspire a revolutionairy rebellion against the French banking system. It does seem to be a bit beyond imagination for the French people to take their financial advice from a millionaire soccer player.
