Sen. Ted Cruz hailed the “amazing & important transformation of today’s politics” after data showed President Trump’s top donors were from the working class.
“Stunning graphical display. Virtually all of Biden’s top donors are employees of (1) colleges & universities, (2) Big Tech, or (3) Wall Street,” the two-term Texas Republican wrote. “Trump’s top donors are working men & women. Reveals the amazing & important transformation of today’s politics.”

The data referenced by Cruz show that more Walmart employees and members of the Marines, the military, and the New York Police Department donated to Trump than to Democratic nominee Joe Biden.
Over 90% of donations from those employed at the University of California, Google, Facebook, Apple, or the National Institutes of Health went to Biden. Biden also scored 84% of donations from federal employees.
The data were also broken down by occupation, finding that 94% of donations from professors were to Biden while 96% of homemakers who donated gave to Trump.
The president also performed well with those claiming disability benefits, with 93% of donations from those who marked their occupation as “disabled” going to Trump. Eighty-four percent of those who reported being ranchers and 75% of those who classified themselves as construction workers donated to the president.
The Center for Responsive Politics projects the 2020 election will cost $14 billion, the most expensive in U.S. history. Democrats have spent $6.9 billion, while Republicans spent an amount of $3.8 billion.
While campaigning for the president in Arizona on Sunday, Cruz emphasized the importance of the GOP being the “party of jobs.” Cruz has argued that Democrats are the party of the wealthy elite and Republicans are the party of everyday workers.
“Today’s Democratic Party is the party of Silicon Valley billionaires. Today’s Democratic Party is the party of Michael Bloomberg. It is the party of power. It is the party of suppression. It is jackbooted thugs who will enforce their will through force. That’s who the Democratic Party represents,” the senator said in July. “Today’s Republican Party are Ohio’s steelworkers. Today’s Republican Party are single moms waiting tables, who are filled with opportunities. ”
