It’s as if Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar slept through Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign.
At the NBC Democratic presidential primary debate on Wednesday, she jumped into a debate about her rival Bernie Sanders and his supporters and their alleged sexist insults directed at other women.
“I know how we can stop sexism on the internet,” she said. “We can nominate a woman for president.”
What a novel idea — from three years ago. Clinton’s nomination for president inspired mugs, shirts, and purses all bearing the phrase, “A woman’s place is in the White House,” though, judging by the merchandise, it’s unclear if that specific place was a closet or a sink.
Klobuchar’s pitch that being woman enough is reason enough to win the nomination is a loser. Hillary “I’m with her” Clinton sort of proved that.
To be sure, Clinton didn’t lose because she’s a woman. As she will remind everyone, even when she’s a ghost haunting our national consciousness, she won more total votes than Trump, who won the necessary states for a resounding Electoral College victory.
But Clinton, with a great boost from the Democratic National Committee and former President Barack Obama, hung much of her campaign on her sex. It wasn’t enough.
Klobuchar was languishing before. Now, she’s really done.
