Nikki Haley forcefully endorses Trump at RNC and tries to woo wary voters

MILWAUKEE — Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley came out with a forceful endorsement of her former boss Donald Trump during the Republican National Convention on Tuesday evening. Yet she also attempted to persuade GOP voters wary of Trump to back him once again.

“President Trump asked me to speak to this convention in the name of unity,” Haley said to roaring applause. “It was a gracious invitation, and I was happy to accept.”

“I’ll start by making one thing perfectly clear: Donald Trump has my strong endorsement. Period,” Haley continued, unequivocally throwing her weight behind Trump.

Haley reiterated her claims about President Joe Biden’s ability to govern due to concerns surrounding his mental acuity and that Vice President Kamala Harris is unsuitable to lead the nation should Biden face tragedy.

“If we have four more years of Biden … or a single day of Harris … our country will be badly worse off. For the sake of our nation, we have to go with Donald Trump,” Haley implored.

The Biden campaign has attempted to court unsatisfied Haley supporters who continued to back the South Carolina lawmaker even after she dropped out of the 2024 race. But Haley has declared that she is voting for Trump and released her 97 delegates to Trump previously.

She attempted to explain to GOP voters that disagreement with Trump did not preclude supporting him. “You don’t have to agree with Trump 100% of the time to vote for him,” Haley argued.

Despite her disagreements with Trump, Haley claimed they agreed on keeping America safe and strong. “We have a country to save, and a unified Republican Party is essential for saving her,” she said.

Haley spoke on the same night as former primary rivals Vivek Ramaswamy and Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) in a show of GOP unity after a contentious primary season.

Yet mere minutes after Haley spoke, the Biden campaign’s national Republican engagement director, Austin Weatherford, released a statement once again pushing for disaffected GOP voters to join Democrats.

“Ambassador Haley said it best herself: someone who doesn’t respect our military, doesn’t know right from wrong, and ‘surrounds himself in chaos’ can’t be president,” Weatherford said. “That’s why millions of Republicans cast their votes in protest of Donald Trump and his attacks on our institutions, our nation’s allies, and civility.”
