Pritzker accused of violating stay-at-home order by employing workers to go out of state

A construction project at the Wisconsin horse farm of Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker has raised questions about whether he is violating the spirit of his own stay-at-home order.

More than 20 workers, mostly from Illinois, crossed the border into Wisconsin to work on Pritzker’s farm, according to Fox 32 News.

“Just crazy. You know, I drive by all the time, and there’s at least 20, 30 trucks a day working on this place. Which, hey, that’s great, keep people working. But you don’t want your Illinois residents working? I really don’t understand that,” said Mike Wendricks, one of Pritzker’s neighbors.

Pritzker also took flak from GOP Illinois state Rep. John Cabello, who said, “He’s saying they don’t want to have any unnecessary travel. It seems as though he has one set of rules for himself while everybody else has to abide by his stay-at-home order.”

Pritzker denied a double standard, arguing that construction workers are essential.

“First of all, they’re operating an essential function. Construction is an essential function. And second of all, they’re union employees that are going to do the work that they do. And I’ve never said that people can’t cross the border into another state,” he said.

Pritzker has been widely criticized for his strict stay-at-home orders, specifically as it relates to churches, and the Justice Department this week supported a lawsuit challenging his order.
