A new poll shows a majority of Americans approve of President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, Judge Neil Gorsuch of Colorado.
A SurveyMonkey Tracking poll showed 53 percent of Americans approve of Gorsuch’s nomination and 42 percent of those surveyed disapprove. Gorsuch’s approval numbers are lower than the approval rating Merrick Garland received when President Obama nominated him to fill the high court vacancy in March 2016.
“Gorsuch does have an advantage in terms of intensity of opinion, as more strongly favor his nomination (30 percent) than strongly oppose it (22 percent),” wrote Sarah Cho for SurveyMonkey. “That said, many Americans do not feel strongly about the Gorsuch nomination, with a total of 43 percent who only somewhat approve or disapprove — far more than the 26 percent who fall into the “somewhat” categories when rating President Trump’s job approval.”
The SurveyMonkey Tracking poll surveyed 5,704 adults online from Jan. 31-Feb. 2.
