Trump didn’t take calls while playing golf: Pro golfer

President Trump didn’t take phone calls during a recent round of golf so he could focus on having a good game, according to a professional golfer who played with Trump on New Year’s Day.

“No, it was all golf. He was fully in the moment and with us. We played with two other guys, and he was great with them too,” Taylor Funk told CNN Tuesday in response to a question about Trump’s behavior during a round on Monday at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Fla.

“I feel like whatever he’s doing, he’s going to be doing it 100 percent at that time, and he wanted to play good golf and we wanted to watch him play good golf,” the 22-year-old Texan added, before joking about beating Trump in a friendly competition.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders justified the time Trump spends on golf courses Tuesday, saying the president uses it to build “deeper and better relationships with members of Congress.”

It was only the media that had a problem with Trump’s time playing the game, Sanders added.

Since his inauguration in January 2017, Trump has visited his own golf clubs 91 times, per a NBC News tracker.
