Biden threatened to fire leakers of negative Harris stories: Book

Kamala Harris has often made headlines for the wrong reasons during her vice presidency due to reports of staff dysfunction — a fact President Joe Biden reportedly took steps to stomp out in an Oval Office meeting.

According to excerpts from the forthcoming book This Will Not Pass by New York Times reporters Jonathan Martin and Alexander Burns, Biden threatened to fire senior staffers who leaked negative stories about the vice president to the press.

According to excerpts of the book reported by Politico, staffers were warned that if “he found that any of them was stirring up negative stories about the vice president, Biden said, they would quickly be former staff.”

Harris’s office has seen plenty of turnover as several top communications advisers depart for new opportunities in other government agencies.

Last week, it was revealed deputy press secretary Sabrina Singh was leaving for the Defense Department, leaving only one of the four top communications aides who came into office with Harris on Inauguration Day still working for the vice president.

Other book excerpts report Harris aides complained about the tasks she was handed and about the vice president herself, who has struggled with persistently low approval ratings.

However, Biden Communications Director Kate Bedingfield has disputed some of the claims.

“The fact that no one working on this book bothered to call to fact check this unattributed claim tells you what you need to know,” Bedingfield told the outlet in an email. “Vice President Harris is a force in this administration and I have the utmost respect for the work she does every day to move the country forward.”
