Harris announced new policy proposals Monday aimed at garnering the support of black men, a demographic that Democrats want to ensure they secure decisively in the election.
The plans aim to give black men more economic opportunity. The proposals include providing forgivable business loans up to $20,000 to black entrepreneurs, promoting apprenticeships, and investing in black male teachers.
Harris’s plans will provide black men “with the tools to achieve financial freedom, lower costs to better provide for themselves and their families, and protect their rights,” a campaign release said.
The proposals also include legalizing marijuana and attacking health challenges suffered by black men with research. Harris’s announcement comes as she is the worst among black men compared to Democrats from previous presidential election cycles.
