Gwen Walz, the wife of Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz, told Women’s Health magazine that the Alabama Supreme Court ruling that paused IVF treatments in the state pushed her to speak out about fertility treatments.
The Minnesota first lady said she was with her husband in his office at the Minnesota State Capitol ahead of a press conference when the ruling came down.
“Tim asked me, ‘Do you feel like we can talk about this publicly?’ And I said, ‘We absolutely do not have a choice.’ At the time, we had not talked about it, even with people who knew us well. But this news brought us to our knees,” she said.
Gwen Walz has frequently advocated fertility treatments and women’s reproductive rights while condemning Trump. “I’m not willing to put my daughter’s reproductive health in his hands,” she said in the article. “If he’s elected, I think there will be a nationwide abortion ban.”
