Alexandria police in ‘barricade situation’ after being fired on in domestic dispute

Police in Alexandria, Virginia, are currently in a “barricade situation” after a woman fired several gunshots from an apartment.

On Friday morning, police in Alexandria responded to an emergency call from an apartment in the Potomac Yard neighborhood complaining about a violent, domestic dispute but were fired upon several times by a woman.

“They met that, they stopped and backed up, and it became a barricade,” said police spokesman Courtney Ballantine. Police say they did not return fire.

Residents in the area said they heard gunshots coming from the fourth floor and a “explosion.” ALXnow was sent an anonymous video of police setting off a device that may have been the source of the explosion.

Afterward, a hostage team was brought in to communicate with the unidentified armed woman. “At this point, an unknown person has barricaded themselves in and they are shooting at police,” Ballantine also told ALXnow. “This is an active incident.”
