An Ohio medical board vetoed a petition that would make being a fan of the Cincinnati Bengals or Cleveland Browns an acceptable condition worthy of getting a medical marijuana card.
The board sorted through 27 petitions submitted late in 2019, suggesting 22 conditions be added to the list warranting medical marijuana usage. For a condition to be approved, the medical board will go to experts who specialize in studying the condition, read relevant medical or scientific evidence, and solicit letters of support from doctors.
“The question being asked today is not to debate the pro and con but is the new information sufficient to cause us to initiate additional discussions on the matter,” board President Dr. Michael Schottenstein, a committee member, told Cincinnati.com.
Both teams have had bad records recently; they jointly went 8-24 during the most recent NFL season. The Bengals had the worst record in the league in 2019, while the Browns achieved that same mark in 2017 and 2018. Cleveland hasn’t reached the playoffs since 2002 and hasn’t won a playoff game in more than 25 years.
