Chris Christie was asked to leave the quiet section of an Amtrak train bound to New York from Washington today.
The presidential candidate and New Jersey governor was apparently talking loudly on his cellphone. Christie was asked to move by the car’s conductor, about 10 minutes into his cell conversation.
“This is frickin’ ridiculous,” Christie said, who is ninth in the Washington Examiner‘s presidential power rankings, said. “Seriously? Seriously?”
Gawker reports that Christie was flanked by two Secret Service agents, and implies that he might have been in an argument with them.
Some witness accounts have differed from that report about how rude Christie was about having to leave.
Christie’s campaign denies the Gawker account, and told the Examiner he was not travelling with Secret Service agents.
“On a very full train this morning, the governor accidentally took a seat in Amtrak’s notorious quiet car,” Christie spokeswoman Samantha Smith said. “After breaking the cardinal rule of the quiet car, the governor promptly left once he realized the serious nature of his mistake and enjoyed the rest of his time on the train from the cafe car. Sincere apologies to all the patrons of the quiet car that were offended.”
