Education Secretary Betsy DeVos is back at work, but in a wheelchair following surgery to repair a broken bone.
DeVos broke her pelvis and hip socket in a bicycling accident over the holidays, she told attendees of an event focused on start-ups and youth entrepreneurship in D.C. on Thursday.
“Very painful,” she said, per Politico. “But it will heal. I just have to stay off of it for quite a few weeks, so I’m getting around with other means.”

A department spokeswoman had previously said DeVos was staying in touch daily with the department during her recovery from what was originally described as surgery to repair a broken bone from a road biking accident.
The fireside chat at Thursday’s event was the only public event on DeVos’ weekly schedule. The Education Department has not been affected by the ongoing partial government shutdown, as funding through Sept. 30 was part of a spending bill signed by Trump last September.
