Teen breaks ankle monitor, tries to flee

A 16-year-old boy broke free of his home detention and tried to elude police, Annapolis police said.

The teen, whose name was withheld because he was a minor, removed his ankle monitoring bracelet and left his house Thursday on the 1800 block of Copeland Street, police said.

Police found the boy twice in the neighborhood, but he escaped both times before returning home. His mother had reported him missing.

He was arrested and sent to the Department of Juvenile Justice.

“Kudos to the mom for being responsible,” Officer Hal Dalton said.

Police said the boy has been arrested several times since he was 11 and was last arrested May 22 on suspicion of drug distribution.
