County police searching Majors Lane for clues in rape case

Howard County police are combing the area around Majors Lane in Columbia in search of any details that could help them find the man wanted in connection with the rape of a 19-year-old woman last week.

“We are still canvassing the neighborhood,” said police spokeswoman Pfc. Jennifer Reidy. “We are talking with neighbors, trying to get any information we can.”

On Friday, police released a sketch of the man they believe raped the woman Thursday in Columbia in hopes that a resident could identify him.

The woman who reported the rape, which police say occurred at about 5 p.m. May 4 on a bike path off Majors Lane, described the suspect as a Hispanic male, under 5 feet tall, with a thin build and goatee.

The woman told police that she was walking on the bike path when the man approached her from behind and asked for sex.

She said “no,” but he proceeded to pick her up and carry her into the woods where he raped her, police said.

Police are asking for anyone with information to contact them at 410-313-3200.
