Dimitri?s International Grille is a family-owned and operated restaurant that sits high atop Frederick Road in Baltimore County. There since 1962, Dimitri?s has become a staple of the Catonsville dining community.
Painted murals of the Grecian countryside adorn the walls, which are decorated with large gray stone pillars. The interior is dressed in dark, muted colors.
The crab dip had been marked as a Dimitri?s Favorite on the menu, so we ordered it as our appetizer. Served with small slices of French bread, the steaming-hot dip came with a layer of melted mozzarella cheese spread on top. Creamy and sweet, the dip was mixed with spinach and lump crab meat.
The fresh, flaky salmon was blackened with a spicy, Cajun-style topping that left my eyes watering after every delicious bite. The entree was paired with Greek potatoes, which were tossed in olive oil, garlic, oregano and lemon juice. The lemon gave just a bit of a sour kick to the potatoes, which were quartered into slices, and were so good it made me inquire about the recipe. Soft zucchini and yellow squash were not as flavorful, but went down with a dash of salt.
My date chose the Cajun chicken with bow-tie pasta and broccoli in Alfredo sauce. Although not the taste explosion the salmon provided, the dish was excellent. Chunks of juicy chicken drenched in sauce complemented the pasta and broccoli, which were both cooked well. The zesty Alfredo carried a mildly spicy aftertaste.
Also notable is Dimitri?s Famous Greek Salad, which consists of crisp Romaine lettuce, crumbled chunks of feta cheese and a vinegar-based dressing. The restaurant?s chicken Caesar salad is excellent as well. The thin dressing drips through the chicken and lettuce and combines with the feta cheese to create a creamy dressing.
The meal was finished with the brownie a la mode. A huge chunk of brownie ? which had more of a rich cake consistency ? was topped with fresh whipped cream, vanilla ice cream and drizzled with cold chocolate sauce.
Rarely do we finish an entire restaurant meal, but Dimitri?s left us with clean plates and a hankering for seconds.
