Trump establishes Gulf of America Day after first flyover of newly renamed area

President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that Feb. 9, 2025, will be Gulf of America Day after flying over the area for the first time since its renaming on his way to the Super Bowl.

In a White House statement, Trump pointed to his executive order titled “Restoring Names That Honor American Greatness” that directed Interior Secretary Doug Burgum to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, saying it “has long been an integral asset to our once burgeoning Nation and has remained an indelible part of America.”
