George W. Bush to fundraise for Todd Young in Indiana

Former President George W. Bush will fundraise for U.S. Senate candidate Todd Young in Indiana.

Bush will attend two fundraisers with the congressman, including a lunch in Elkhart and and an evening reception in Indianapolis, according to Young’s campaign.

“This is a rare opportunity that demonstrates the importance of this election. It could decide who controls the Senate and the make-up of the Supreme Court for the next generation,” said Young campaign spokesman Jay Kenworthy in a statement. “All eyes are on Indiana.”

The campaign’s announcement of Bush’s presence on the trail comes just before the anniversary of September 11. Young’s campaign said the volunteers who knock on the most doors on Saturday will be afforded tickets to the private event with Bush.

Donald Trump, the GOP nominee who tapped Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as his running mate, has criticized Bush for not keeping Americans safe on 9/11 as president. Young, a former Marine, has indicated he supports Trump’s foreign policy plans, but avoided telling the Associated Press whether he was comfortable with Trump having the nuclear launch codes.
