Trial set for former McKinley teacher

The District teacher charged with stealing laptops from McKinley Technology High School was given a trial date of March 9 Friday morning.

Patrick Kelsey was arrested on Jan. 13 for taking 10 Dell laptops from inside the magnet school, according to charging documents. D.C. Public Schools investigator Eastern Stewart discovered Kelsey’s connection to the missing computers while investigating a $100,000 grant that vanished at McKinley.

Prosecutors told D.C. Superior Court Judge Florence Pan that “we’re still investigating the facts in this matter.” Pan said they could choose to drop the theft charges before the trial.

“It’s a theft case, not a drug analysis or anything, you have plenty of time,” the judge said.

Kelsey could receive a $1,000 fine or 180 days in jail if he does not show up to trial.
