Jim Jordan writing book with ‘inside look’ into congressional investigations and Trump era

Rep. Jim Jordan is writing a book that promises to offer insight into the Republican Party’s biggest political conquests during the rise and reign of former President Donald Trump.

Do What You Said You Would Do: Fighting for Freedom in the Swamp is scheduled to be published on Nov. 23, according to a promotional page on the website for Simon & Schuster, the publisher that will distribute the book.

An Amazon page for the book says it will weigh in at 256 pages. “Get an inside look at the detailed investigations of the United States Congress, the groundwork for Donald Trump’s win in 2016, and the events that occurred during his successful four years as president,” the website for Post Hill Press, which is publishing the book, says.

The page also includes an excerpt from the book that describes the moment when Jordan found out Trump had tested positive for COVID-19.

“When I woke up on October 2, 2020, I figured it would be like most Fridays in DC,” the Ohio Republican wrote. “Congress would finish up the week with a few votes on the House Floor and then members would rush to Reagan National Airport to catch a flight home. Polly and I had a mid-afternoon flight; however, we weren’t headed home. We were going to Wisconsin to help a colleague raise funds and to attend the President’s rally in Green Bay … As I started to put on my workout gear before heading to the House gym, I took a look at my phone. I noticed I had several text messages and missed phone calls from Russell Dye, the top media staffer for our personal office and for Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee. Some of the calls and messages were from after midnight … I called him right away. ‘What’s going on?’ I asked. He responded, ‘Sir, the president has the virus!'”

The Washington Examiner reached out to a representative for Jordan’s team for more information about the work but did not immediately hear back.

The news comes weeks after the CEO and president of Simon & Schuster defended the company’s decision to publish a book by former Vice President Mike Pence after deciding on Jan. 7, the day after the riot at the Capitol, to cancel a book deal it had with Sen. Josh Hawley.

“As a publisher in this polarized era, we have experienced outrage from both sides of the political divide and from different constituencies and groups,” Jonathan Karp said in an April 20 letter to employees that was obtained by the Washington Examiner. “But we come to work each day to publish, not cancel, which is the most extreme decision a publisher can make, and one that runs counter to the very core of our mission to publish a diversity of voices and perspectives. We will, therefore, proceed in our publishing agreement with Vice President Mike Pence.”
