‘A different Republican Party’: Don Trump Jr. previews father’s CPAC speech

Donald Trump Jr. says his father’s remarks at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Orlando, Florida, will reflect how it’s “a different Republican Party” than the pre-Trump era.

“When I walk around the floor here at CPAC, the amount of love for my father, for his policies [of] putting America first and going to bat for those Americans who have forgotten for far too long, it’s absolutely incredible. So, I think you will see talk of that,” he said on Fox News. “I think you’re gonna see, you know, talk of this just being a different Republican Party, one that isn’t just into losing while being graciously accepted at the cocktail parties in Washington, D.C. That’s what our establishment has done … [whereas former President Donald Trump] told them, ‘You don’t have to do that. You can actually fight for the people.'”

The former president’s eldest son, who was speaking with host Jesse Watters, also criticized some of those institutions often considered by Trump supporters to be part of “the swamp,” blasting the FBI for what he said was its prioritization of some cases over others.

“When I look at the upper echelons of law enforcement, you know, the crown jewel of law enforcement, the FBI, they’re spending more time investigating Lady Gaga’s missing dogs and garage pulls at NASCAR tracks than they are the 10 months of insurrection, arson, [and] burning that happened in America,” he said. “Now, they’ll go after people [who were involved in the Capitol Hill riot] on Jan. 6, and they rightfully should. But the fact that they can totally ignore dozens more deaths, billions more in damage, and not even think about it, it’s like Jeff Zucker of CNN and Jussie Smollett teamed up together to run the FBI because that’s what’s going on right now. It’s absolute lunacy, and it’s happening before our very eyes.”

A source told the Washington Examiner that the former president will attack President Biden’s “disastrous amnesty and border policies” in his CPAC speech. “Look for the 45th President to take on President Biden’s disastrous amnesty and border policies,” a source familiar with Trump’s plans said.

Trump Jr., who himself addressed CPAC in a fiery speech on Friday night, promised in his remarks that his father’s speech would not be “low energy,” a reference to a label the former president often attached to political adversaries. Much of CPAC honored the 45th president, with Sen. Tom Cotton predicting that Donald Trump will continue to play a “key role” in the GOP and Sen. Ted Cruz vowing that the former president “ain’t going anywhere.”
