House Dems surging as election nears

Rasmussen Reports, which has shown a consistent edge for House Republicans in the fall election, has just recorded a turnaround of sorts, with Democrats now just 1 percent behind the GOP on the generic congressional ballot.

In latest poll, House Republicans now lead by just 41 percent-40 percent, a five point jump in just one week. “This is the closest gap between the two parties since the third week in February,” said the pollster.

The reason why is unclear, though the Supreme Court’s Obamacare decision supporting the health reform act likely impacted the poll. Once the decision was announced, Democrats and Republicans feuded over repealing it.

Said a Democratic operative, “When even Rasmussen has Democrats making big gains in the generic congressional ballot, it should be a big warning sign for House Republicans that their Republican majority is in jeopardy. This poll shows Democrats gaining six points just this month and erasing the lead Republicans had in fall of 2010 because voters are rejecting the priorities of this Republican Congress.”

But a House GOP official retorted, “The stakes are too high for anyone on our side to take this election for granted. The words ‘Speaker Nancy Pelosi’ are a nightmare for many Americans, which is why we need all the help we can get to ensure we have the resources we need to strengthen our House majority.”
