Elizabeth Warren puts hand up to be Joe Biden’s vice president

Elizabeth Warren had a succinct answer when asked whether she would accept Joe Biden’s hypothetical offer to be his 2020 Democratic running mate.

“Yes,” the Massachusetts senator and former 2020 presidential candidate told MSNBC late Wednesday.

Biden, the presumptive 2020 Democratic presidential nominee, has been very open about his No. 2 selection process, saying he’ll assemble a committee by the end of the month.

The two-term vice president and 36-year Delaware senator has already committed to choosing a woman, narrowing the possible pool of candidates.

Potential picks such as California Sen. Kamala Harris and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer have begun their public auditions, appearing at virtual fundraisers and on Biden’s new podcast, respectively, as he campaigns amid the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Others, like former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams, have been less subtle.

“I would be an excellent running mate,” she said this week. “I have the capacity to attract voters by motivating typically ignored communities. I have a strong history of executive and management experience in the private, public, and nonprofit sectors. I’ve spent 25 years in independent study of foreign policy. I am ready to help advance an agenda of restoring America’s place in the world.”
