Redskins-Dolphins report card

Impact player

Redskins linebacker Ryan Kerrigan had his biggest impact since the season opener, recording two sacks and forcing two fumbles that put the offense in scoring position. It helps when an opponent doesn’t block him.

Did you notice …

Miami wide receiver Brandon Marshall consistently hurt the Redskins over the middle? He caught three passes on third downs for 67 and three first downs. He was not the difference in the game, but on those drives the Dolphins scored 10 points.

Under the radar

Leonard Hankerson set a season high for yards by a Redskins wide receiver with 106. He ran good routes, made plays because of his size and energized the downfield passing game. His slip led to an interception. He suffered a hip injury and exited on crutches.

From the sidelines

Miami coach Tony Sparano deserves credit for keeping his team engaged and playing hard. They pressured Rex Grossman and stopped the run usually with just the front seven. The final touchdown came off a good play call.

Mike Shanahan made a surprising decision to bench John Beck, but the move wasn’t the wrong one. Beck has been ineffective and didn’t show enough improvement. But the same issues — ground game, red zone offense — killed the Redskins.
