Disgraced former Congressman Anthony Weiner, D-N.Y., is expected to be sentenced Monday for sending sexually suggestive texts to a minor.
A federal judge in New York can sentence Weiner to up to 27 months in prison. In August, Judge Denise Cote delayed Weiner’s sentencing until Sept. 25, after Weiner’s lawyer’s sought a delay until Oct. 6.
Weiner has pleaded guilty to sexting with a minor, a 15-year-old girl, and has said he has a “sickness.”
Weiner’s actions disrupted his marriage to Huma Abedin, a top aide to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. But many believe they also hurt Clinton’s chances of becoming president.
Late in the 2016 campaign, the FBI found that some of Clinton’s emails from her private server found their way to a laptop that Weiner was able to access.
That prompted the FBI to reopen its investigation into Clinton’s emails briefly, something the agency announced just days before the campaign.
Clinton herself has blamed that FBI announcement on her loss to Trump.
