An explosion at a chemical plant located in Shandong, China, killed at least five people and injured 19 on Tuesday at around noon local time.
The blast occurred at the Gaomi Youdao Chemical plant, which manufactures pesticides and chemicals for medical use.
More than 500 employees work at the plant. Six people remain missing after the explosion.
Fifty-five vehicles and 232 personnel responded to the incident at the plant. The explosion was so powerful that windows at a storage warehouse more than 2 miles from the factory were blown out.

A worker at a factory more than 3 miles away from the blast told CNN that they felt a “strong gust” of wind.
“A strong gust of airflow scared me so much that I didn’t dare leave my office,” the worker said. “The doors and windows in my factory were damaged. … The airflow rushed in through the window, and if I had been a bit closer, it might have thrown me against the wall.”
