Former Vice President Joe Biden said President Trump’s tweet this week to Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., was a little too sleazy for prime time.
“When our leaders use that kind of language that is used so often today, we not only dumb down the nature of the conversation, but we allow the seamier side of society to act as if it has a legitimate place,” Biden told ABC’s “The View.”
The former vice president was referring to a tweet from Trump in which he said Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., “would do anything” for campaign contributions.
Many believed the president’s tweet contained a sexual innuendo, but White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said Tuesday the president has used “similar terminology many times when talking about politicians of both parties, both men and women.” Sanders also said Trump’s tweet was in no way sexist.
Biden, though, called the president’s tweet about Gillibrand “disgusting,” and said he hopes to see “some movement across the board in raising the quality and tone of the discussion.”
