In this week’s edition, Josh Siegel, the Washington Examiner‘s energy and environment reporter, discusses Hurricane Ida’s impact on energy markets and fuel availability in Louisiana — and potentially — nationally.

He recalls an interview with Rep. Garret Graves, a Louisiana Republican, who warns that gasoline shortages are bound to get worse.

Josh also discusses how Ida raises the urgency of making the power grid more resilient, since the storm knocked out all eight transmission lines operated by utility Entergy into New Orleans, meaning people could be in the dark for weeks, not days.

The concept of resilience is a key theme of President Joe Biden’s Build Back Better Agenda, which seeks to prepare our infrastructure for more severe storms caused by climate change.

Finally, Josh previews the work ahead for House Democrats who are starting to mark up their reconciliation bills as part of the $3.5 trillion spending package.
