Trump: Some may have issue with Buttigieg campaigning with husband, but I think ‘it’s great’

President Trump praised 2020 Democratic hopeful Pete Buttigieg for campaigning with his husband.

“I think it’s great,” Trump said an interview set to air Sunday on Fox News. “I think it’s absolutely fine, I do.”

Trump agreed with Fox News host Steve Hilton that it shows same-sex marriage has been normalized.

“I think that’s something that perhaps some people will have a problem with. I have no problem with it whatsoever. I think it’s good,” Trump said.

Buttigieg, 37, married his husband Chasten, 29, in June 2018. Chasten Buttigieg, the first same-sex husband of a major-party presidential candidate, has become somewhat of a celebrity on the campaign trail.

Not everyone has been as supportive of their marriage, including Chasten Buttigieg’s family.

His brother told the Washington Post he wants the best for him, but he doesn’t “support the gay lifestyle.”

Earlier this month Trump nicknamed the South Bend mayor “Alfred E. Neuman,” a reference to the fictitious character who graced the cover of Mad magazine for decades.

Buttigieg responded to the moniker saying he was too young to understand the reference.

“I’ll be honest. I had to Google that. I guess it’s a generational thing. I didn’t get the reference. It’s kinda funny, I guess. But he’s also the president of the United States and I’m surprised he’s not spending more time trying to salvage this China deal,” Buttigieg told reporters last week.
