After its cyber defenses were exploited during the 2016 presidential campaign, the Democratic National Committee has hired Raffi Krikorian, a former engineer at Uber and Twitter, to be its chief technology officer.
“Bringing Raffi aboard marks a major milestone in our commitment to rebuilding the Democratic Party into an organization built to win elections immediately and over the long term,” DNC Chairman Tom Perez said in a statement. “Under my watch, the DNC is committed to giving Democrats an unprecedented technological edge. Raffi will spearhead our team’s efforts to provide resources to our state parties and build a nimble structure that can push the envelope of innovation while simultaneously shoring up the organization’s institutional defenses. I believe Raffi is just the person to lead the charge on this increasingly important effort.”
As chief technology officer, Krikorian will join the management team, and oversee numerous information security staff, including the chief information security officer, data director and software engineering director.
Perez, who was elected in February, called for this type of job position to be created while campaigning in January after WikiLeaks published stolen emails from DNC staffers during the 2016 presidential campaign.
