Most people want insects in their home to bug off, but a pest control company is offering homeowners $2,000 if they allow the company to release 100 cockroaches in their home for an entire month.
The North Carolina-based company, Pest Informer, is looking for new ways to get rid of insects in homes as technology progresses, and its latest experiment intends to target cockroaches. The company will test out a specific pest control technique on the 100 cockroaches released in five to seven houses to gauge how effective it is in exchange for $2,000, according to the company’s website.

“The overall goal of this test is to test out various DIY-related cockroach treatments that anyone can then implement — if our study finds it effective,” David Floyd, the founder of Pest Informer, told the Washington Examiner. “Working in the pest control industry we’ve seen many customers who really don’t have the financial means to hire a professional, and we think that living pest-free should really be a basic right as an American.”
The 30-day experiment will use family-safe and pet-safe cockroach treatments. If the infestation has not been eliminated, Pest Informer will use traditional cockroach treatment options at no extra cost. Applicants will not be allowed to test their own cockroach treatments during the study.

Pest Informer already has over 2,500 people signed up as of Wednesday afternoon and will “close the door to new applicants soon.” The company is “overwhelmed” with the number of applications it has received because it was “expecting it to be difficult to find any applicants.”
All of its findings will be released to the public for free for anyone to use, the company said.
