A “Social Justice Committee” is changing course material at University of Denver

Graduate students at the University of Denver (UD) have created a Social Justice Committee to provide support for “underrepresented people” at the Morgridge College of Education Counseling Psychology (CP.)

The committee was formed due to a growing need for “social justice” as well as “advocacy” for certain underrepresented peers, according to the group. Numerous students take part in the CP program which focuses on concepts such as diversity and multiculturalism.

UD’s website says the CP students are “making an impact” in three different ways: Revamping Curricula, Workshops, and Bias Incidence Reporting.

Apparently, the Social Justice Committee has amalgamated with UD faculty in order to pursue ways to “incorporate issues of power, privilege, and inequity into all of the Counseling Psychology curriculum.” In other words, they are retiring current curriculum and replacing it with more polarizing and progressive material in order to satisfy personal, political agendas.

The CP program is teaming up with the Center for Multicultural Excellence to provide workshops centered around diversity and multiculturalism. They plan to host a workshop on “Responding to Microaggressions” this fall. The Center for Multicultural Excellence also teaches Queer and Ally trainings.

The Social Justice Committee also stresses concerns of “Campus Safety.” The group states that one of their primary missions in Bias Incidence Reporting is to ensure “that violent acts against people of color are reported and investigated with as much urgency as those against white people.” The student group, however, failed to mention any actual incidents or statistics on in race-based inequities regarding the reporting of crimes.

The committee meets on a bi-quarterly basis and is “always looking for new members who are committed to social change.” It is unclear how allowing a group of vainglorious and self-absorbed psychology students to be the moral arbitrators of social activity will better the University of Denver.
