FEC investigating three illegal donations to Devin Nunes’ 2018 campaign

The Federal Election Commission is investigating a handful of campaign donors for contributing more than the legal limit to former House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes in 2017.

In a letter the FEC sent Wednesday to Toni Dian Nunes, his campaign treasurer and mother, the commission asked her to turn over “information essential to full public disclosure” regarding three contributions by April 24.

The first two individuals contributed more to Nunes in the 2018 election cycle than the $2,700 that is permitted per cycle.

Jeffrey J. Kimbell, president of a Washington-based lobbying firm in the life sciences industry, gave three donations last year totaling $3,000. His firm lobbied on behalf of groups that lobbied on one bill that was sponsored by Nunes.

Harris Lee Cohen, manager of the SIFI company in Terra Bella, Calif., gave a total of $3,000 in 2017.

The final contributor, Stone Land Company, donated $10,000 to Nunes. The contribution was illegal because corporations and labor organizations are not permitted unless given from separate segregated funds by those groups.
