Fox News amends erroneous story claiming Roy Moore accuser ‘forged’ yearbook signature

Fox News on Friday had to correct a story that claimed one of the women accusing Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore of sexual misconduct had forged his signature in her yearbook.

The story initially said that Beverley Young Nelson “admits she forged part of yearbook inscription attributed to Alabama Senate candidate.”

The story relied on misconstrued comments Nelson gave to ABC News. She had actually said that she made her own inscription below Moore’s signature, which was dated from 1977, and not that she had forged it.

Nelson is one of several women who claim Moore pursued a relationship with her when she was a teenager and he was an adult in his 30s.

Moore has denied all the claims and has expressed doubt even knowing Nelson.

Fox corrected it’s story with a note that said, “An update to this story reflects that Beverly Young Nelson admits writing what ABC News characterized as ‘notes’ beneath what she says is Roy Moore’s signature, and that the only notes below the signature are the date and location. Furthermore, the headline on story now specifies that Nelson admits to writing part of the inscription herself, rather than forging part of it.”
