UCF sets new mark for funded research in 2014

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — University of Central Florida researchers have set a record in funded research for 2014, bringing in more than $145 million

The total is 30 percent more than 2013, and reflects successful collaborations with industry, a record total of federal defense grants and growth in commercialization and innovation activity.

The highest funded unit was Student Development and Enrollment Services, which received $29 million from Lockheed Martin to fund workplace training for graduate and undergraduate students.

Federal awards totaled $72 million and included Florida’s only Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative award.

Funding for industry and other sources including professional and nonprofit organizations came in at $59 million, while state and local funding was almost $14 million combined.
