Even though there was a euphoria at M&T Bank Stadium Friday surrounding the preseason debut of new quarterback Steve McNair, Ravens head coachBrian Billick continues to play it cautious with his team.
“I?m very impressed with our offensive and defensive lines, first group, and we did some very good things,” Billick said Monday at McDaniel College. “But we also did enough things to lose 10 games. So that?s what we?ve got to address.”

Ten games, of course, was the number of losses last season?s heavily hyped team lost.
The Ravens? offensive line continues to be one of the more scrutinized units on the team. Tackle Jonathan Ogden, following a long absence after the death of his father, still is trying to get in shape during side sessions.
Last season?s offensive line floundered in protecting quarterbacks Kyle Boller and Anthony Wright.
“The protection was outstanding, particularly in the two-minute drive, where those offensive and defensive lines start to tee off,” Billick said of the preseason game. “It?s just get after the quarterback, and the protection was near flawless.”
Jamal Lewis finding blocking form: The Ravens hoping running back Jamal Lewis will find his running stride again this season. They also need the bulky back to pick up blitzes and block for new quarterback Steve McNair in passing situations.
“Jamal looked very good,” Billick said of his Lewis? performance in Friday?s game. “Last year, I don?t know that his pass protection was quite what we had gotten used to. Jamal is a good pass protector, and you saw signs of that he was recommitted to it and focused on what he needed to do as pass protector.”
Starters should go longer against Eagles: After pulling many of his front-line players after one or two series against the Giants on Friday, Billick said they should expect more time this Thursday when the Ravens play the Eagles.
“You leave the firsts for a little bit longer, try to get that rhythm, that teamwork together,” Billicksaid. “And then in the second half, get a long, good, hard look at some guys that you?ve got to make decisions on.”
Any particular position?
“Across the board,” Billick said.
