Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez dances to ‘Jump on It’ with Thanksgiving volunteers

Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., took a little break Tuesday from helping volunteers pack Thanksgiving meals for families in need to dance to a hip hop classic.

“Team Ocasio spent this morning with @FeedingNYC having fun & packing over 6,000 Thanksgiving meals for families in ALL 5 boroughs!” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted, along with a video of the herself doing the dance to the Sugarhill Gang’s version of “Jump on It!”

“Our trucks for Queens & Bronx families just went out,” the 29-year-old wrote. “Feeding NYC started after 9/11 w/ 70 families. Now thousands of people are involved!”

Feeding NYC is a program run by the Dream Big Foundation, 501(3)(c) nonprofit organization, in conjunction with Live Person every Thanksgiving to give struggling families “a frozen turkey and all the fixings” so they can enjoy a proper holiday meal, according to the group’s website. The initiative also shared a photo of Ocasio-Cortez’s visit on social media.

Ocasio-Cortez’s charity work comes after she slammed critics for scrutinizing her for having less than $7,000 in personal savings.

“My dad died when I was 18, my mom scrubbed toilets + drove… schoolbuses, I bartended to help her, and still won a Congressional primary at 28,” she tweeted. “I’ll take my family over a fat bank account any day, and my experience makes me a better legislator. I am the people I work for.”
