President Trump’s approval rating among independents took a dive in the past month and hit a new all-time low.
While 47 percent of independents approved of how Trump managed his job in August, only 31 percent of independents approve this month, according to a new CNN Poll conducted by SSRS. His previous all-time low among independents in that poll was 32 percent in 2017.
Overall, Trump’s approval rating for how he has handled his tasks as president has also declined by 6 percentage points, dropping to 36 percent this month from 42 percent in August.
Those polled also claim they like Trump less now than they did in June. Now, 61 percent say they do not have a favorable opinion of Trump, in comparison to 55 percent the month before.
The poll comes after the Washington Post published excerpts last week of veteran journalist Bob Woodward’s upcoming book, “Fear: Trump in the White House,” and after an anonymous op-ed reportedly written by a senior administration official was published by the New York Times last week. Both depicted the White House in an unfavorable manner, and the administration official confessed that administration officials work to undercut Trump’s agenda.

CNN’s poll revealed that 58 percent believe the senior administration official behind the anonymous op-ed should disclose his or her identity publicly, while 55 percent claimed it’s not appropriate for the official to undermine the goals of the president that has employed the official.
The poll was conducted from Sept. 6 to Sept. 9 and included a random sample of 1,003 Americans who were contacted by the phone. The margin of error for the full sample is plus or minus 3.8 percentage points.
