Melania Trump’s top policy aide leaves White House role

First lady Melania Trump’s policy director has left her role at the White House after seven months in the position.

Reagan Hedlund — Reagan Thompson before her April wedding — stepped down from her position to focus on foreign policy issues, she told Politico.

“I am very grateful to the first lady for the opportunity to help launch her policy initiative,” Hedlund said. “It was a rare opportunity to contribute at such a high level. It was a difficult decision to leave, however I have decided to return to my roots in the foreign policy world.”

Before joining the East Wing, Hedlund served as an executive assistant at the National Security Council. She also worked for Secretary of State Mike Pompeo when he was a Republican congressman.

“She is no longer with our office and we wish her our best,” the first lady’s communications director Stephanie Grisham told Politico.
