Maryland comptroller endorses Delaney for Congress

Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot has endorsed Democrat John Delaney for Maryland’s recently redrawn Sixth Congressional District, he announced Tuesday.

“With first-hand experience creating jobs and helping small businesses grow, John knows how to solve our fiscal challenges and get our citizens back to work,” Franchot said. “Maryland’s sixth district needs a congressman who will bring people together to build an economic future that supports the middle class.”

Delaney also has been endorsed by former President Bill Clinton and former Montgomery County Executive Doug Duncan.

Delaney is competing against state Sen. Rob Garagiola, D-Germantown, for the Democratic nomination in a race to represent the district, which was redrawn a few months ago to stretch from Garrett, Allegany and Washington counties in Western Maryland to northern and western Montgomery County. Republican Rep. Roscoe Bartlett has represented the district for nearly 20 years.
