Position review » Offensive lineJammal BrownBrown will play Saturday vs. Baltimore, barring any setbacks, after practicing the past two days. He’s still adapting to playing right tackle, but he said the time off (he had missed 11 days) allowed the pain in his hip to subside. “With the hip thing out of the way and feeling better, I’m able to focus more on the football aspects and that felt good,” he said. Brown looked better Monday than he did Sunday. He has a knack for using his body to engulf pass rushers. Because he’s bigger than most, he’s able to get away with that tactic. However, Andre Carter beat him to the inside once because he got into Brown’s body, then swatted him off-balance.Derrick DockeryDockery is arguably the most consistent offensive lineman. He’s not the best, but he’s rather steady. His biggest issue is when he starts to lunge, an old habit that still hurts him occasionally. But Dockery and center Casey Rabach worked well together Monday morning; their blocks opened some holes through the left side.Chad RinehartRinehart had a decent start to camp, but has struggled lately. Too often he’s getting moved into the backfield. And that’s what happened on a Jeremy Jarmon stunt Monday: Jarmon came through Rinehart’s hole, moved him back near the quarterback’s face and deflected the pass. Rinehart, entering his third season, has yet to show that he could eventually become a full-time starter. When he was drafted, one draft guru predicted he could be a “steal.” But that does not yet appear to be happening.

News & notes

» Receiver Malcolm Kelly is unlikely to play the second preseason game vs. Baltimore on Saturday, yet another setback for the third-year player battling a pulled hamstring. Coach Mike Shanahan said Kelly is probably at 50 to 60 percent efficiency. He hasn’t practiced since July 29, the opening day of training camp. Shanahan said he expects Kelly to return next week.

» The Redskins’ offense and special teams had trouble holding on to the ball Monday. The defense forced two fumbles — by running backs Willie Parker and Keiland Williams — and H.B. Blades, who caused one of those fumbles, stripped Fred Davis after a catch. Punt returner Terrence Austin then dropped two punt returns — with no rush coming at him.

» The Redskins released their new depth chart Monday, with no significant changes. Parker is now listed as the No. 3 running back, moving up a spot ahead of Ryan Torain. Brandon Banks moved up to the No. 2 punt returner. Receiver Roydell Williams, who had been working with the second team, was moved to fourth team. Coaches stress not to place too much emphasis on depth charts at this time of the season (aside from starters).

» Shanahan cancelled Monday’s walk-through and took the team bowling instead. Safety Kareem Moore later tweeted that Shanahan had lifted curfew, too. Camp ends Thursday. Shanahan said he has always taken his teams bowling in the past. “It’s a reward for having a good camp,” he said, “and kind of seeing light at the end of the tunnel with the end of camp coming up.”

» Free agent running back Brian Westbrook signed with San Francisco Monday, a day after Shanahan had said he was still an option in Washington.
