As Hillary Clinton gears up for a campaign for the White House in 2016, her tendency to spend big on private air travel is inviting more and more scrutiny.
National Review recently examined Clinton’s campaign expenditures during her 2008 presidential bid, which eventually ended in disappointment when Barack Obama won the Democratic primary and eventually the presidency.

The review showed that Clinton dropped over $19.2 million on private plane flights during the time she was campaigning, nearly nine times what failed Republican candidate Mitt Romney spent on the elite air travel during his own campaign the same year.
Granted, Romney dropped out of the race four months before Clinton, yet by that time Hillary’s campaign had already tallied $6.7 million in private plane flights. Romney, on the other hand, spent a total of $2.2 million on such travel.
Of course, this shouldn’t come as a surprise, as Clinton has become infamous for her preference of luxurious air travel.
Her speech contract with the University of Nevada-Las Vegas for remarks she delivered last fall revealed that Clinton typically demands that institutions paying her to speak provide her with a $39 million private jet for travel. This is in addition to the more than $200,000 she usually receives for her speeches.
Moreover, Bill and Hillary Clinton spent $1.5 million on private plane flights during the midterm election as they campaigned for Democratic candidates. Campaign and political committees, of course, had to foot that bill.
Undoubtedly, many eyes will remain on Clinton and her private air travel as the 2016 presidential election heats up.
