Homeschoolers report on museum

A group of homeschooled students and their teachers visited The Baltimore Examiner for a field trip and received a tour of the newsroom in late January.

Students then went to the Maryland Science Center with a real assignment to write about their favorite exhibit.

“My favorite exhibit at the Maryland Science Center was the Body Link and Wet Lab. At the Body Link section of the exhibit, I had the chance to exercise my muscles on a stationary bike. Also I played a game of tic-tac-toe versus my brother. The only way to get a spot on the board was to answer a true or false health question. After we finished our game, I went to the Wet Lab to do an experiment. There, I dressed up like a scientist. I wore a lab coat, goggles and gloves to protect me from any spills. The experiment was to make DNA from wheat germ.

“One of my favorite things at the Maryland Science Center was the presentation on the brain. The reason this was so enjoyable was because it was a hands-on experience. The first thing I did was wear goggles that affected my vision. I found that I couldn?t function without the help of eye-hand-coordination. In order for that to happen, I definitely need my brain, if it wasn?t for our brains we wouldn?t be able to do lots of simple things like throwing a ball, putting a glass up to your mouth or walking.” ?
