Fairfax County police name man killed in stabbing

Fairfax County police on Monday identified a man stabbed to death early Sunday morning as Harbi Adam, 18, of the 3500 block of Ellery Circle in Falls Church. Adam was one of two men found stabbed at the scene after a fight between two groups on Powell Lane, according to a news release. His death marks the seventh homicide in Fairfax County this year. The condition of the second stabbing victim was unknown late Monday. – William C. Flook

Man injured in Sterling fight

Loudoun County sheriff’s investigators are pursuing possible gang ties to a Sterling fight Saturday night that sent a Herndon man to the hospital with a serious head injury. The 18-year-old man waswalking near Sweetwater Car Wash in Sterling when he was approached by several attackers and hit with a blunt object, he said. Investigators are probing whether there were gang connections to the incident, sheriff’s spokesman Kraig Troxell said. – Dan Genz

Security guard charged in plot to steal from bank

A D.C. security guard was indicted on charges that he conspired with a teller to steal $24,000 from a D.C.-area bank. Royal Richardson conspired with an unnamed bank teller who worked at Bank of America’s Mount Vernon Square branch at 625 Massachusetts Ave. NW to write fraudulent checks using real bank accounts, according to the charging documents filed in U.S. District Court. – Scott McCabe

Mass. man struck by SUV

A 28-year-old man is in critical condition at Bethesda’s Suburban Hospital after being struck by a Mercedes SUV when he tried to cross Rockville Pike without using a crosswalk.

Michael Robert McMahon, of Massachusetts, was crossing the northbound lanes of Rockville Pike in Bethesda at 11 p.m. Saturday when he was struck by a silver 2005 Mercedes sport utility vehicle driven by Mary Abrebrese, 60, of the 6900 block of Lamont Drive in Lanham. The driver remained on the scene. Police say no charges have been filed and the investigation is continuing. – Kathleen Miller
